Who is Joe Hart?

Joe Hart was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, to gym equipment salesman Charles Hart and his nursery school teacher wife Louise. He began his education at Oxon Primary School and finished at Meole Brace School in Shrewsbury, where he served as a head boy his senior year. During his school years, he excelled in cricket as well, and he spent two years with Worcestershire’s youth teams, where he played with England cricketer Steven Davies.

He also briefly played for Shrewsbury CC in the Birmingham and District Premier League. In the Premier League, Hart has a league-leading 100 clean sheets and four Premier League Golden Glove Awards to his name. He has also earned 75 England international caps since making his debut in 2008. Shrewsbury Town, where he grew up, was his first professional club in the Football Conference and League Two.

After attracting the attention of several other top-flight teams, he joined Manchester City in the Premier League in 2006. He was loaned out to Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool during his debut season. On loan from Manchester City to Birmingham City in 2009-10, Hart was named the Premier League’s best goalkeeper by his peers and was nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award.

For the 2010–11 season, he returned to Manchester City and won the Golden Glove award for the season’s most clean sheets in the Premier League. Manchester City won the Premier League title in 2011–12, and Hart repeated his achievement. It was his third consecutive Golden Glove title the following season, and he repeated the feat in 2012–13 to claim his fourth in five seasons.

In the interim, Hart led Manchester City to a second Premier League title in 2013–14. When Pep Guardiola took over as manager of Manchester City in 2016, Hart was demoted to the backup goalkeeper position and made just one Champions League appearance before being loaned out to Torino and then West Ham United.

After injuries to Burnley’s two regular goalkeepers, he was signed on a permanent basis in August of that year. Following their recovery, Hart was relegated to the role of backup and was released by the club in June 2020, when his contract expired. Hart agreed to a two-year contract extension with Tottenham Hotspur in August 2020. His next move was to Scottish Premiership team Celtic, where he signed for the next year.

From 2010 until 2017, Hart was the first-choice goalkeeper for the English national under-21 team. Hart earned his senior international debut in June 2008. This player has appeared in two FIFA World Cups and as many UEFA European Championships for England, earning him 75 caps. When Joe Hart was younger, he played football in the National League and EFL League Two for his hometown team, Shrewsbury Town.

Shrewsbury Town played Gravesend & Northfleet on April 20, 2004, and that was Hart’s debut senior team outing at the age of 17. England manager Fabio Capello handed Hart his first cap against Trinidad & Tobago on June 1, 2008, in Spain. While Hart only appeared in 54 games for his native Shrewsbury Town, he put in some impressive individual performances despite the fact that he did not have many clean sheets to his name.

He showed flashes of being a world-class goalkeeper and had the zeal to compete till the end. Many Premier League clubs were interested in Hart, which was understandable. Manchester City signed Hart in 2006, although his place in the club was temporary. During the 2007 season, Hart was loaned to Tranmere Rovers and Blackpool. During his stint at Rovers and Blackpool, he appeared in six games for Rovers and five for the Seasiders.

After his return to City, Hart briefly served as the team’s primary goalkeeper, but Italian Shay Given took his place as the starter for the 2008-09 campaign. For the 2009-10 season, Hart was loaned to Birmingham City to get the playing time he required. He got out to a poor start, but he came on strong later in the season. As a result, he was selected for the PFA All-Star squad.

When Joe Hart came to City, he was given the opportunity to prove himself against Spurs. Joe took the opportunity and performed admirably, earning the man of the match award. He quickly rose to the position of starting goalkeeper for England. Hart aided City in the FA Cup semifinals and finals when they ultimately prevailed and claimed the trophy.

Hart won the Premier League Golden Glove Award in 2010-11 for his outstanding play and 18 shutouts. He also took home the Golden Glove Award in 2011-12, and he made a significant contribution to Manchester City’s title run that year. In his career, one of the most memorable saves by Hart was against world-class star Messi in the Champions League penalty shootout.

In the round of 16 matchups versus Barcelona, Messi lauded Hart’s flawless performance. For the 2016-17 season, the Englishman chose to join Torino in Italy. He appeared in 36 games during his time with the team. Hart made the decision to return to the Premier League in 2017 and was loaned out to West Ham United. The English club has already used him in 17 games.

As a member of England’s squad at UEFA Euro 2012, Hart made a significant contribution to the team’s success, particularly in the knockout stages. In 2014, Hart also took part in the FIFA World Cup. However, England was a disappointment at the event, finishing in the bottom half of the standings.

On November 13, 2014, Hart led England to a 2-0 defeat over Spain in Hart’s absence, as Rooney was not in the lineup. In the 2012-13 season, Joe Hart’s play deteriorated dramatically. He had fallen out of favour as City’s starting goalkeeper, but he was able to reclaim it in December of that year.
