Who is David Bowie ?

David Robert Jones OAL, better known as David Bowie, was an English singer-songwriter and actor who lived from January 8, 1947, until January 10, 2016. Bowie is acknowledged as one of the most influential musicians of the twentieth century.

Critics and musicians praised him for his groundbreaking work in the 1970s. His career was defined by reinvention and visual presentation, and his songs and stagecraft influenced mainstream music significantly. As a child, David Bowie became interested in music.

Before starting a professional career as a musician in 1963, he studied art, music, and design. His first top-five single on the UK Singles Chart was “Space Oddity,” which he released in 1969. He resurfaced in 1972, during the glam rock era, as his flamboyant and androgynous alter persona Ziggy Stardust, after a period of experimentation.

The persona was propelled forward by the fame of David Bowie’s single “Starman” and album The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. With the number-one song “Fame” and the album Young Americans, Bowie’s approach altered to a sound he described as “plastic soul,” alienating many of his UK followers but bringing him his first major US crossover triumph.

Bowie released Station to Station and appeared in the cult film The Man Who Fell to Earth in 1976. In 1977, he released Low, the first of three collaborations with Brian Eno that became known as the “Berlin Trilogy.” Following that came “Heroes” (1977) and Lodger (1979), both of which charted in the top five in the United Kingdom and gained widespread critical acclaim.

David Robert Jones was born in the Brixton neighbourhood of London on January 8, 1947. Margaret Mary “Peggy” (née Burns; 2 October 1913 – 2 April 2001) was born in Shorncliffe Army Camp near Cheriton, Kent, to his mother Margaret Mary “Peggy” (née Burns).

Her paternal grandparents came from Ireland and settled in Manchester.  She worked as a waiter in a Royal Tunbridge Wells cinema Haywood Stenton “John” Jones (November 21, 1912 – August 5, 1969) was his father, and he was from Doncaster, Yorkshire.

and worked for the children’s charity Barnardo’s as a promotion officer. The family lived at 40 Stansfield Road, on the border of Brixton and Stockwell in Lambeth, south London. Bowie went at Stockwell Infants School until he was six years old, where he developed a reputation as a brilliant and determined child—as well as a belligerent brawler.

Bowie and his family relocated to Bickley and subsequently Bromley Common from 1953 to 1955, where he attended Burnt Ash Junior School. The school choir graded his voice as “acceptable,” and he displayed above-average recorder skills.

His dancing in the newly introduced music and movement classes at the age of nine was remarkably imaginative: professors praised his interpretations as “vividly creative” and his poise as “astonishing” for a child. In the same year, his father bought home a collection of American 45s by performers such as the Teenagers, the Platters, Fats Domino, Elvis Presley (who shared Bowie’s birthday), and Little Richard, which piqued his interest in music even more.

Bowie later claimed that he “heard God” after listening to Little Richard’s song “Tutti Frutti.” Bowie originally became impressed with Presley after seeing his cousin Kristina dance to the song “Hound Dog” shortly after it was released in 1956.

Kristina claims that she and David “danced like possessed elves” to various musicians’ albums. By the end of the following year, Bowie had picked up the ukulele and tea-chest bass, started skiffle sessions with friends, and started playing the piano; in the meantime, his stage performance of Presley and Chuck Berry songs to his local Wolf Cub group was described as “mesmerising… like someone from another planet,” complete with gyrations in tribute to the original artists.

David’s father, who had pushed his son to pursue his aspirations of becoming an entertainer since he was a child, led him to meet singers and other performers practising for the Royal Variety Performance in the late 1950s, introducing him to Alma Cogan and Tommy Steele.

Bowie attended Bromley Technical High School after finishing his Burnt Ash Junior education and passing his eleven-plus exam. In 1967, Bowie met dancer Lindsay Kemp and enrolled in his London Dance Centre class.  When he met Kemp in 1972, he said that his interest in images “truly flourished.” (363) “He was a fantastic influence since he lived by his feelings

. His daily routine was the most theatrical thing I’d ever seen. It was all I had imagined Bohemia to be. I became a member of the circus.”  Kemp designed a dance number for a BBC drama, The Pistol Shot, in the Theatre 625 series, in January 1968, and used Bowie with a dancer, Hermione Farthingale; the two started dating and moved into a London flat together.

Bowie and Farthingale broke up in early 1969 when she went to Norway to work on the film Song of Norway; this affected him, and he made references to her in songs like “Letter to Hermione” and “Life on Mars?” and he wore a T-shirt with the words “m/s Song of Norway” for the video accompanying “Where Are We Now?”

They last worked together in January 1969 on Love You till Tuesday, a 30-minute picture that didn’t come out until 1984: It was made as a promotional vehicle and contained performances throughout Bowie’s discography, including “Space Oddity,” which had yet to be released at the time the film was made.
