Who is Blake Shelton?

Blake Tollison Shelton is the son of Dorothy, a beauty salon owner, and Richard Shelton, a used car salesman, and was born in Ada, Oklahoma. Shelton began singing at a young age and was taught to play the guitar by his uncle when he was 12 years old. He wrote his first song when he was 15 years old. He had obtained a Denbo Diamond Award in his home state by the age of 16. Richie Shelton, his older brother, died in a car accident on November 13, 1990, when he was 24 years old. He travelled to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a singing career after graduating from high school at the age of 17. He acquired a position at a music publishing company there, and Bobby Braddock helped him land a production contract with Sony Musiq in 1997.

He signed with Giant Records in Nashville a few years later. He was supposed to release a single called “I Wanna Talk About Me” in 2001. Staff at the label, however, thought the song was unsuitable for a lead-off single, and it was finally covered by Toby Keith, whose version became a number one hit. Shelton’s debut single, “Austin,” was instead published by Giant. Giant Records was shut down shortly after the release of that song, and Shelton was transferred to Warner Bros. Records, the parent company. “Austin” was Shelton’s first number-one country single, spending five weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks (now Hot Country Songs) charts. Shelton’s self-titled debut album was released by Warner, and it was produced by songwriter Bobby Braddock. It also yielded the Top 20 hits “All Over Me,” which Shelton co-wrote with Earl Thomas Conley and Mike Pyle, and “Ol’ Red,” which Shelton co-wrote with Earl Thomas Conley and Mike Pyle. Despite the fact that Shelton’s version of “Ol’ Red” was not a major radio hit, he considers it to be his signature song, and it has become a concert favourite. The album was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of one million copies. Maria Konicki Dinoia of Allmusic gave the album a positive review, calling “Austin” “tremendously imaginative” and praising Shelton for including songs written by Braddock and Conley.

In August 2008, he released the single “She Wouldn’t Be Gone,” his 14th chart entry and sixth No. 1 success. He had two straight number ones for the first time in his career. “She Wouldn’t Be Gone” is the first song from Shelton’s new album, Startin’ Fires, which also features the track “I’ll Just Hold On.” “Bare Skin Rug,” a duet with Lambert, is also included on this CD. Except for one tune, which was produced by Brent Rowan, and another (“I Don’t Care,” which was carried over from Pure BS), it was produced by Scott Hendricks.

On July 12, 2011, Blake Shelton released his album Red River Blue, which included the single “Honey Bee.” In its first week, the song got 138,000 downloads, and in its seventh week, it was certified gold, breaking the record for the fastest gold certification by a male country musician. “Honey Bee” reached No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart on June 13, 2011, in its tenth chart week, becoming his ninth and fastest-climbing No. 1. With about 110,000 copies sold, the album was predicted to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Shelton announced in August 2014 that Bringing Back the Sunshine, his ninth studio album, would be released on September 30, 2014. “Neon Light,” “Lonely Tonight” (a duet with fellow country singer Ashley Monroe), “Sangria,” and “Gonna” are among the album’s singles. On the Country Airplay chart, all four singles have hit No. 1. Shelton was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame on November 13, 2014, for his achievements in the music industry as well as the charitable work he has done for his home state. Shelton later described the accolade as “unbelievable” and “honourable.” Shelton released the compilation CD Fully Loaded: God’s Country in 2019. The single “God’s Country,” which reached number one on Hot Country Songs in mid-2019, preceded the album. “Hell Right,” a second duet with Adkins, was also released from the album, as was “Nobody but You,” a collaboration with Gwen Stefani. Todd Tilghman was named the winner of The Voice’s eighteenth season in 2020, giving Shelton his seventh win on the show. Tilghman, who is 42 years old, is also the show’s oldest winner. His finalist Cam Anthony was proclaimed the winner two seasons later, giving him his ninth title as a coach. Shelton’s most recent album, Body Language, was released on May 21, 2021, and it was his first in over four years. The singles “Happy Anywhere” and “Minimum Wage” preceded the album’s release.
