Andrea Jean McLean (born October 5, 1969) is a Scottish journalist and television host who previously worked for ITV Daytime.From 1997 to 2008, McLean worked as a weather presenter for GMTV, and from 2007 until 2020, she co-hosted ITV’s daytime discussion show Loose Women.
McLean and her sister grew up in Trinidad and Tobago, despite being born in Glasgow, Scotland. When she was 15, her family returned to Scotland, but she eventually lived in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, where she completed her schooling at Robert Smyth Grammar School.
On her father’s side, Mclean is descended from Russian Jews who emigrated to Scotland to escape persecution in Russia. Mclean has indicated that she has always been aware of her Jewish ancestry, but that her family no longer practises Judaism.
McLean received a BA Hons in Modern Studies and a Postgraduate Certificate in Periodical Journalism from Coventry University. Then she went to Cairns, Australia, for a gap year. As a freelance travel journalist, McLean began her profession in 1993.
In May 1994, she began working for Central Press Features and was promoted to Production Editor in 1995. McLean began working as a weather reporter for Talk Radio in June 1996, after joining The Weather Channel. In 1997, she was one of the panellists on Channel 5’s daily chat show Espresso.
McLean became a weather presenter for GMTV in June 1997. She anchored LK Today in Lorraine Kelly’s absence while co-hosting GMTV Today with Ben Shephard and Eamonn Holmes. Her bright demeanour and journalistic training drew the attention of producers, and she went on to host shows like the first series of Our House for UKTV Style
and as a guest panellist on ITV’s Loose Women. McLean was succeeded as GMTV’s weather presenter by BBC’s Kirsty McCabe after she announced her decision to depart in November 2008. On December 31, 2008, McLean gave her final broadcast at GMTV, which included a special tribute to her career.
McLean competed in the ITV ice-skating show Dancing on Ice in January 2006. She was eliminated in the third week alongside her partner, professional skater Doug Webster. For the duration of the show’s existence, McLean and fellow ex-contestant Andi Peters hosted Dancing on Ice Extra, a daily fan show.
When Jackie Brambles left on maternity leave, McLean took over as a guest star on Loose Women. McLean revealed in July 2008 that she would leave GMTV to focus on her role on Loose Women, and that she and Brambles would share the regular host job.
When the show returned for its 10th anniversary on September 1, 2009, Brambles left the show, and Kate Thornton took her place as the new anchor, which she shared alongside McLean. Carol Vorderman took up Thornton’s role in 2011. Kaye Adams joined the show as an anchor in 2013, and Ruth Langsford rejoined in January 2014.
Vorderman’s retirement from Loose Women was revealed in July of 2014. Two or three days a week, McLean continued to co-anchor Loose Women. The other anchors are Langsford and Lampard. McLean announced her departure from the show after 13 years on November 30, 2020, in order to pursue other interests.

McLean and Toms moved in together after Green’s divorce, and they lived in Ashtead, Surrey, where they had Amy in November 2006.During Loose Women’s summer break, the couple married in August 2009. McLean announced her separation from Toms in January 2012, saying she had moved in with her parents after leaving their marital home in December 2011 with their children after a year of working on their failing marriage.
