Andrea Louise Martin (born January 15, 1947) is a Canadian-American actress, singer, and comedian best known for her roles in the television shows SCTV and Great News. Black Christmas (1974), Wag the Dog (1997), Hedwig and the Angry Inch (2001), My Big Fat Greek Wedding (2002), My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 (2016), and Little Italy are just a few of her film credits (2018).
She also voiced Anastasia (1997), The Rugrats Movie (1998), and Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius (2001).Martin has also had a successful career in the theatre, earning Tony Awards for both My Favorite Year and the 2013 revival of Pippin.

Andrea Martin was the eldest of three children born to Sybil A. (née Manoogian) and John Papazian Martin (Armenian: ). She was born in 1947 in Portland, Maine. Her paternal grandfather emigrated to the United States from the Ottoman Empire as Armenian immigrants. Her grandfather renamed the family Martin instead of Papazian. Her maternal grandparents were Yerevan and Constantinople-based Armenians .
Martin’s Foods, a supermarket chain, was her father’s business. Martin was cast in a touring company of You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown shortly after graduating from Emerson College. She moved from New York City to Toronto in 1970 after repeated visits there, and found steady work in television, cinema, and theatre almost immediately.
Martin appeared in a Toronto production of Godspell in 1972, playing Robin alongside future stars Gilda Radner, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and Victor Garber, as well as musical director Paul Shaffer.Her early film performances included the scholarly sorority sister Phyllis in 1974’s Black Christmas, a Canadian slasher, for which she earned the Sitges Film Festival Award for Best Actress.
In 1976, she co-starred alongside John Candy, Dave Thomas, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis, and Joe Flaherty in the Canadian sketch comedy television series SCTV, which was set at the fictional Melonville television station “Second City Television,” or SCTV.
Martin was best known for portraying leopard-print-wearing station manager Edith Prickley, whose interactions with the rest of the personnel, which included president/owner Guy Caballero, dumb newscaster Earl Camembert, and washed-up actor Johnny LaRue, provided much of the show’s humour.
