Amy Frederica Brenneman (born June 22, 1964) is an actress and producer from the United States. She is most recognised for her significant television work as Detective Janice Licalsi on the ABC police drama series NYPD Blue (1993–1994), when she originally rose to popularity.

She earned her bachelor’s degree in comparative religion from Harvard University in 1987. She co-founded Cornerstone Theatre Company while at Harvard, with whom she travelled for several years following graduation. In 1992, Brenneman debuted on CBS with the short-lived series Middle Ages.

The following year, she landed her first major role on the ABC police drama series NYPD Blue as mob-connected uniformed cop Janice Licalsi. Her plot arc spanned the first season (1993–1994) and the first few episodes of the second season, and included a romantic involvement with David Caruso’s character. In 1994, she was nominated for an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, and the following year for Outstanding Guest Actress.

Brenneman began her career in cinema after leaving NYPD Blue. She made her film debut in 1995 with roles in Bye Bye Love, Casper, and the critically acclaimed crime drama Heat.  Brenneman was the female lead alongside Sylvester Stallone in the disaster thriller Daylight in 1996, and she also acted in the thriller Fear the following year.
